The official opening of the second JET BI and BSUIR laboratory took place on December 14.
The first JET BI lab has been working at the university for almost two years. It has been conducting educational courses in SAP, Salesforce and QA.
On the basis of the new lab, we plan to adhere to a slightly different format of education: communication with students in the club format. These are meetups, hackathons, development of start-up projects and other activities that imply a high degree of each participant’s involvement in the learning process.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vadim Bogush, rector of BSUIR, and by co-founders of JET BI Andrei Tankevich and Andrei Bosak. A cut of a red ribbon symbolized the beginning of a new collaboration stage aimed at the development of the Belarusian IT industry.
After the opening of the lab, Hackathon Light: IoT for Business started. The next day there was the protection of the projects. The participants needed to invent and present a business idea based on sensors and smart devices.
The Light format did not assume a long time for projects preparation and was designed for a small number of participants. Six teams with a total of 30 people, students of BSUIR, BSTU, BSU, Academy of Management demonstrated interesting IoT solutions related to the optimization of the warehouse, garbage collection, smart kitchen, lock, home and more.
When selecting the winner, the jury assessed: the applicability of the idea in the business sphere, its uniqueness and functionality, as well as the use of real devices and the performance of the prototype.
Freshmen of the information technology faculty from BSTU took first place in Hackathon Light: IoT for Business. The winners presented the project Smart Cart - a smart basket to optimize the shopping process.
Two more teams were awarded prizes. Winners of the hackathon received gift certificates with the ability to choose gifts or entertainment at their discretion.
The first JET BI experience in conducting a hackathon showed how many talented guys are interested in the topic of IoT. We plan to continue cooperation not only with the winning team, but also with the teams that need consulting support in finalizing the projects.
Once again we congratulate the guys on the victory, and thank everybody who participated in the event for their active work, creative atmosphere and positive attitude!
In the nearest future, we will conduct a new course “Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence”. It is designed for students, who want to develop in Data Science. This course will last about six months and will provide an opportunity not only to improve your skills in the field of interest, but also to work on your own startup project with the opportunity to receive funding for its launch.
Follow our news! There are a lot of interesting things ahead!
