Reporting | JET BI

Traditionally high demand from BI system is related to reporting. Report in BI systems usually means pre-configured combination of request to data-warehouse (usually parametrized), subsequent calculations and data visualization format.

Reports allow specialists and managers to analyse company results in all areas of activity. Single point of access to reports, single version of the report configuration, authorizations to access reports allow to maintain principle of single "point of truth" in the company. Data in the reports can be taken from data warehouse systems (like SAP Business Warehouse), SAP HANA, or existing relational databases, used within the company (e.g. Oracle, MS SQL Server, DB2, Informix, etc.).

In many cases instead of single business intelligence solution company uses several different tools or systems covering needs of specific department, e.g. Financial Accounting, Controlling, Human Resources, etc.

In this case, in order to get full picture managers need consolidated reporting, based on the data from several systems. In many cases the consolidation requires significant amount of manual work which results in report preparation details, high efforts for report preparation, higher probability of error and thus lower trust to the data.

Sometimes managers from different departments get different numbers in the same KPIs just because they used different source systems or the data was extracted from the source systems at different times, thus violating principle of single "point of truth". Usage of single BI system company-wide helps to resolve these issues and allows to use all benefits of business intelligence to full extent and power.

Depending on the area of business, corporate reporting can be divided into the following spheres:

  • Managerial Accounting
  • Financial accounting
  • GL Accounting
  • Reports in IFRS
  • Analysis of Sales, Warehouse, Procurement
  • Manufacturing Reports
  • Analysis of relationships with suppliers / customers
  • HR reports
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI) calculation

Data visualization in reports is normally done using one or several visualization forms:

  • Table form
  • Charts and diagrams
  • Dashboard
  • Business Data Explorer
  • Form-based reporting

Users access BI reports via:

  • Web-pages on corporate portal (thin client)
  • Using MS Excel
  • Mobile apps or web-pages optimized for mobile devices
  • Custom desktop client tools (thick-client)
